Martin Blake is an achievement-driven sustainability expert and visionary leader, with over 25 year’s practical experience. Dr Blake spent over 20 years in the Middle East working first for an American Healthcare provider and later the largest oil company in the world, Saudi Aramco. He has over 25 years’ experience in business management, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability. He holds an MBA in Organisational Analysis and Strategic Management and his Doctorate in Business (DBA) focused on Organisational Change.
He designed and deployed one of the most successful carbon management programmes in the world, working with UK’s single largest employer, Royal Mail, from 2004 until 2010. Martin’s proven track record is in developing and driving sustainability business cases through organisations.
Dr Blake led the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Teams at Royal Mail as well as designing and deploying an international award winning Carbon Management Programme to combat climate change. (Royal Mail is the largest single employer in the UK and has one of the largest fleets of trucks and vans in Europe, with 35,000 vehicles and over 30 Boeing 737’s transporting 85 million pieces of mail every day to 27 million addresses.) During those seven years Royal Mail won over 75 National and International awards for CSR exceeding all KPIs, cutting overall carbon footprint by 20% in 3 years and reducing transport related carbon emissions by 10%, building energy consumption by 20%, waste by 50% and water by 20%. A further 34% reduction in the carbon footprint will be achieved by 2015, saving £30m annually.
Adept at blending both the practical and the theoretical, his work has resulted in the award of two adjunct professorships and numerous international keynote speaking engagements. He has pre-eminent expertise in developing strategic plans and influencing high profile stakeholders within Governments, NGOs as well as the postal, construction, healthcare, oil & gas and charity sectors. |
